With as many peaks to surf as there are rusting Volkswagens putting around town, it’s no wonder the shores of Santa Cruz have been dubbed the No. 1 surf spot in the nation by Surfer Magazine this week.
Competing with surf hot spots in Hawaii, Southern California and four on the East Coast, Santa Cruz has a combination of abundant swells, vineyards tucked away in the mountains and incomparable natural beauty, and that had Surfer Magazine convinced of the coastal town’s superior location.

There appears to be an uproar in the forthcoming future from fans in support of Carl Long and his crew chief Charles Swing’s $200,000 fine he was issued for having an engine 0.17-inches too large.
On Long’s website, Carl-Long.com, fans have started donating money to help pay for the fine that Long admitted he won’t be able to pay.
As of June 5 at 9 a.m. ET, the website shows that $7,159.27 has been raised, which includes a $5,000 donation from Sprint Cup Series driver David Reutimann.
