With as many peaks to surf as there are rusting Volkswagens putting around town, it’s no wonder the shores of Santa Cruz have been dubbed the No. 1 surf spot in the nation by Surfer Magazine this week.
Competing with surf hot spots in Hawaii, Southern California and four on the East Coast, Santa Cruz has a combination of abundant swells, vineyards tucked away in the mountains and incomparable natural beauty, and that had Surfer Magazine convinced of the coastal town’s superior location.
The first paragraph of the article states, “Huntington Beach may have won the right to the name ‘Surf City, USA’ in the California courts, but any surfer who’s ever paddled out at Steamer Lane knows the judge got it wrong.” … Details
