There is an awful lot of doom and gloom out there, but when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.

And being the patriotic sort that I am, I decided to do my part for the good of the economy and help Congress spend our way back to prosperity.

Shopping for a new board is therapy that I suggest you all to try. Walking into a shop nowadays with a fistful of dollars and a gleam in your eye is equivalent to Kelly Slater showing up at your local surf shop. From all the attention you get, it’s like you just won the World Championship Tour or something.

When I think of the funniest moments in sports, I think of things that we rarely witness happening. Seemingly spot on, near-perfect athletes having moments that make them seem like they don’t always sit on the pedestal we place them on. I think of the moments that demonstrate they are human, that they are one of us.

The date is Nov. 15, 1992. I am in the chilly grandstands of Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is a sentimental and memorable day. It is the final race of the NASCAR Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup) season.
