It’s been 10 years since Carla “Jo” Elmore has seen snow, but now she is reminded of it every day.

Two weeks ago she and husband, Tony Bernasconi, put up a privacy fence in their backyard made up of about 350 snow skis. The printed sides of the black skis face the backyard of the squash-colored house. Each ski reads “ORION” in neon green, orange and purple letters. The back of the skis are a black, dark gray color and face NW 39th Avenue.

How the couple’s ski fence came about is the result of a tight budget and an imaginative boss.

The original fence was damaged in the 2004 hurricanes. Then when another one blew through town a few years ago, a huge tree in the backyard fell and finished off the fence as well as the couple’s greenhouse….  Details

Jamis Bicycles has added two new sales representatives to support continued expansion in northern California.

Steve Heaton, a former Specialized representative with nearly 20 years of experience in the bike industry, will cover San Francisco’s South Bay and East Bay as well as the Central Valley.

Peter Mollison, who previously handled international and northern California dealer sales along with race event management for Wilderness Trail Bikes, will focus on San Francisco as well as regions north and east to Lake Tahoe. …  Details

Here we go then, another year, another season of F1. This one however has got me more excited than previous years.

There is the return of slick tyres, last used in the 1997 season. There is the introduction of the KERS device, a first for the Motor-sport.

And there has been the introduction of tall and thin rear wings, wide and low wings for the front along with the ‘smoothing’ of every car’s aerodynamics.

All of these factors should produce some lively results for the first 6 Grand Prix of the season. I really do not want to take a punt on who will be fastest, but…  Details

Brawn buying Grand Prix team means Barrichello, Button must go.

The Formula One news this week is both good and bad.

It’s good, because the Honda F1 team will not go out of business after all. It’s been purchased by a group headed by ex-Honda team principal (and former Ferrari brainchild) Ross Brawn and will be known henceforth as Brawn GP.
