Every motorsport lovers must know how great the Porsche 962 endurance racer was. It and its predecessor, 956, dominated the Group C scene for a decade. Itself won five World Sportscar Championships and 6 Le Mans, although occasionally challenged by Jaguar XJR series and the Silver Arrow (Mercedes-Benz). It was also the most popular racing car ever built – about 150 cars were built. Many used cars were available in the market, while spare parts were widely available from Porsche as well as the aftermarket. Defending Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from the Australian Grand Prix on Thursday for giving misleading evidence to race stewards.

The McLaren driver was awarded third place after the season-opening race in Melbourne last weekend when stewards ruled Toyota’s Jarno Trulli breached regulations by passing Hamilton during a safety car period.

Trulli was reinstated to his original third-place finish, while Hamilton and McLaren were excluded from the results and receive no points….  Details

malibu-hsThe Golden State Regional Championships, the second event of the 2009 Red Bull Riders Cup season, took place this week in Ventura, California.  This stop of the Red Bull Riders Cup, the nations’ premier high school surfing competition, saw The Golden State region’s best high school surfers battle it out in fun but challenging conditions.  Participating high schools included Ventura High, Santa Barbra High, Carpinteria High and Malibu High School.  The week’s competition varied from major whitewashes to nail biting close finishes but was fierce at all times.  In a repeat of last year’s regional title, it was Malibu High snatching victory and taking the win over Carpinteria High.  Malibu has now booked a spot in the Red Bull Riders Cup National Championship, which will be held on June 6-7 at Upper Trestles in San Clemente.  The series now moves east to central Florida’s Pelican Beach Park on March 31 – April 2…. Will Power, No. 3, Team Penske

Born: March 1, 1981

Hometown: Toowoomba, Australia

Outlook: Power has moved from KV Racing Technology to Roger Penske’s team, filling in at Team Penske until it is determined if and when 2008 series runner-up Helio Castroneves, currently being tried on federal tax charges, can return to racing. The Aussie, a three-time winner in the defunct Champ Car series, had two top-fives and five top-10s in 16 races last season as an IndyCar rookie.

Dan Wheldon, No. 4, Panther Racing

Born: June 22, 1978

Hometown: Emberton, England

Outlook: The 2005 IndyCar champion and Indianapolis 500 winner returns to his roots, moving to Panther Racing, with whom he made his series debut in 2002. Last year he drove for Target Chip Ganassi Racing, winning two races on the way to a fourth-place finish in the points. Wheldon has 15 career victories but joins a team that has not won since 2005.
