GUENES, Spain, April 9 (Reuters) – A long sprint earned Michael Albasini of Switzerland victory on stage four of the Tour of the Basque Country on Thursday.

Second behind the Columbia-Highroad rider was Belgian Jurgen Van Den Broeck, with American Christian Vande Velde third.

The three riders formed part of a day-long breakaway which attacked after 20 kms of racing through hilly terrain.

That’s the goal of Assemblywoman Lori Saldana, D-San Diego, who has introduced legislation to allow thrashers access to public skateboard parks even if they don’t have elbow and knee pads.

Turning away those who don’t don the safety equipmentment will just encourage rogue riding in the streets, risking more serious injuries, is Saldana’s point.

The measure, Assembly Bill 874, has a fan in Mark Takahashi, a San Diego attorney well-known in the area for his efforts on behalf of riders.
