Portland, Oregon-based photographer Garric Ray has been living the skate life his whole life. He cut his teeth working in skate shops and constantly skating the Pacific Northwest. At 18 he blew out his knee skating and, in that down-time, became interested in photography. Tons of minimum wage jobs and saving money later, and he finally bought his first camera. Now, Garric has found his photographic style and his work has graced the pages of TransWorld, Thrasher, The Skateboard Mag, Kingpin, Concussion, and Automatic. Many us us who have been surfing for a while – before HD Surf Cameras , cell phones, the Internet, and swell forecasts – remember how difficult it used to be to determine what the surf and wind conditions would be like at the beach, unless we happened to live right on the beach. During school while our teachers might have droned on about Algebra, Napoleon, or World War Two, our attention was instead focused out the window looking at the tops of the trees for clues as to how much wind there might be at the beach, what direction it was coming from, and whether we might be able to sneak in a good surf session after school.

Spain’s Alberto Contador took the overall lead at the Tour of the Basque Country on Wednesday after winning the toughest stage of the six-day race.

The 2007 Tour de France winner, team mate of Lance Armstrong in the Astana team, attacked alone on the final steep climb of the 172.5km third stage from Villatuerta to Eibar.

He managed to open a gap and finished nine seconds ahead of Australia’s Cadel Evans and Spain’s Samuel Sanchez.

Registration is now available via the USA Cycling website for the 2009 UCI BMX World Championships and Challenge slated for July 20-26 in Adelaide, Australia. All qualified riders will need a valid USA Cycling International BMX license in order to register for the event. A complete list of qualified riders and more details on how to register are available on the USA Cycling BMX World Championship information page on the national governing body’s BMX homepage. Registration for all amateur class riders closes May 1 and on July 3 for all championship class athletes.

All riders must be pre-qualified, either by finishing in the top-eight at last year’s UCI BMX World Championships/Challenge, or by recording a top-16 finish at the 2009 USA Cycling BMX National Championships on March 21. For a complete list…  Details
