A program which allows teens to legally drag race against Vallejo police officers isn’t expected to worsen the police department’s current woes over worn out cars and equipment. 

Vallejo Police Department officials could not be reached for comment Monday, but the program’s coordinator said there have been no accidents or injuries in “Top the Cops” history. 

“All you’re doing is going from point A to point B,” said Kevin McKinnie, a retired Santa Rosa police officer who started the program more than a dozen years ago.

A former world champion surfer gave this advice on surfing and life to Morro Bay High School students on Thursday.

South Africa native Shaun Tomson visited the school during a special assembly to talk about his life story and lessons learned.

The 54-year-old, who now lives in Santa Barbara, used his experiences to relate key points from his book, “Surfer’s Code: 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life.”

Allison Jones (standing; Colorado Springs, CO) made it two U.S. titles in as many days as she won the giant slalom at the 2009 Adaptive U.S. Championships Sunday.

“I had a lot of fun and I always enjoy skiing at Winter Park,” Jones said. “This is a great hill that present a lot of natural challenge. I hope to continue this and have fun in the speed events.”
