In an unsurprising turn of events, Chrysler has pulled its sponsorship of Sam Hubinette’s drifting team as part of the company’s restructuring plan. The bankrupt automaker’s Formula Drift program was run by Shaun Carlson’s NuFormz Racing, which began with Mopar in 2002, competing in the NHRA Sport Compact division. The team eventually made their way into drifting in 2004, where Hubinette captured the championship behind the wheel of a Dodge Viper during Formula D’s inaugural season. Hubinette went onto several podium finishes, placing second overall in 2006 and claiming runner-up finishes in both 2005 and 2008.

The Oregon Trail Rally is known as one of the toughest on the Rally America calendar, and as the fourth round of the national championship series, it’s the moment when the race for the national championship title is at its most intense.

Oregon Trail is tough for a number of reasons, not the least of which are the traditional punishing roads of Oregon’s coast range with their extreme crown to drain the coast’s prodigious rainfall. The organizers lost access to those roads this year, and moved the rally to the equally challenging slopes of Mount Hood. The roads in the Cascades aren’t as crowned as the coast range, but they are substantially rougher, with embedded boulders that can launch a rally car.

More fresh snow on Queenstown’s premier ski areas, on top of consistent snowfall throughout May, is delivering spectacular pre-season conditions.

Coronet Peak ski area, scheduled to open on Saturday, 6 June, has received 50 – 100cm of snow in four days, resulting in an 80cm base at the top of the mountain and a 50cm base at the bottom.

Hamish McCrostie, Coronet Peak Ski Area Manager, said they couldn’t have asked for a better build up to season opening.
