Don Garlits’ garage next to his two racing museums doesn’t collect much dust these days. That’s because the famed drag racer, who looks about 60 but says he’s well on his way to 78, can’t stop turning wrenches.

He’s been doing so for more than 50 years, after the then-young Tampa accountant walked away from a white-collar career to work at an auto body shop. He lost his girlfriend at the time, he said, but has since gained everything he ever wanted.

A lot of the fans were out on the beach this morning in hopes of catching a glimpse of their favorite kiteboarder in action. Day 3 of the Palmolive Kitesurf World Cup in St. Peter-Ording, Germany was a very successfully day under a bright, warm and beautiful blue sky.

Today’s weather was just what the doctor ordered, lots of Vitamin D for everyone to share.  The temperature reached a high of 22 degrees Celsius, with nearly cloudless skies and fluctuating winds averaging 12 knots.

Smiling, happy people surrounded the event site today and the joyous atmosphere was extremely contagious.

The Obama Administration is considering carrying out a Bush-era plan to restrict the number of snowmobiles that are allowed to access Yellowstone National Park each day. The giant park, which crosses state boundaries into Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana, is otherwise inaccessible to visitors in winter months. Lobbyists for the snowmobile industry say that this is just the first step to an outright ban that would effectively close the park in winter months, and cave to environmental concerns raised by those who rarely visit Yellowstone. Environmentalists claim that the snowmobiles are doing damage by compacting loose snow into ice and emitting carbon monoxide…  Details

1) We’re surprised as heck to see it given Santa Cruz’s comments on our 29er DH post and on their engineering guy’s own blog, and…

2) We’re a little late to the game on posting this.  It’s been in the wild for a couple weeks now, depending on who you talk to.

So, to make up for the latter, we’ve accumulated lots and lots of pics, specs and details for your viewing pleasure.  Here it is, the 2010 Santa Cruz Tallboy 29er.  It’s a carbon-fiber frame with next-generation VPP pivots that have grease ports and angular contact bearings, aluminum pivot axles and titanium hardware.  It’ll come in four sizes, from Medium to XXL, and it’s light!
