11:15 a.m. HST: Hank Gaskell just murdered his heat. Gaskell won the Xcel Pro at Sunset back in early November. It was clutch, as he has been without a sponsor most of the year. In his heat against Ben Dunn, he not only smoked several barrels, but he managed to get off some of the best turns of the event thus far. Tour de France winner Alberto Contador admits his Astana team is weaker with Lance Armstrong’s departure and the exodus of riders who followed the Texan to RadioShack.
“I know that right now we’re not at the level of Armstrong’s RadioShack (team), but the atmosphere is great and the desire to work hard is there,†Contador said at a preseason training camp Friday, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport’s Web site. “Let’s discuss it again in a few months.â€

Formula 1 will introduce a new points system from 2010 after the FIA World Motor Sport Council approved the F1 Commission’s proposal to award points to the top 10 finishers in each race.
A statement from today’s meeting of the World Council said: “Due to the expanded grid of 13 teams, and further to the recommendation of the F1 Commission, a new points system will be in place for the 2010 season.” The new system will award points in the following order … Details
