MacGillivray’s new doc to debut at Cannes

Greg MacGillivray’s new documentary “Hollywood Don’t Surf!” will make its world premiere next month on the Croisette, where it plays in the seventh annual Cannes Classics program.

Sam George wrote and co-directed the film, which chronicles Hollywood’s long love affair with the sport, and examines 50 years worth of American surfing movies.

In 2008, BMX (bicycle motocross) racing, was introduced as an Olympic sport at the Summer Games in Beijing.

Maris Strombergs of Latvia became the first athlete to win gold in the event, defeating USA’s Mike Day (silver) and Donny Robinson (bronze) in a time of 36.190 seconds. With the win, he became Latvia’s first gold medalist of the 2008 Games.

In 2008, Strombergs also won the UCI BMX World Championships.
