Featuring 55 individual races at 24 events in 14 states, the 2011 U.S. Handcycling Series (USHCS) presented by PossAbilities was announced today by US Handcycling, a Colorado  nonprofit organization. The series enters its 12th season as North America’s only integrated cycling series, putting athletes with and without disabilities together at premier cycling competitions.

For the second year, the calendar opens with a winter event: the Top End/PVA Euro America HC Championships in Melbourne, FL February 6. The warm weather trend continues in March and April at Southern California’s Redlands Bicycle Classic and swings North to Monterey, California where handcycling will be part of the Sea Otter Classic.

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche is poised to revive the flat-4 engine for its new baby roadster, as well as existing models such as the Boxster, the Cayman and the 911.

Britain’s Autocar magazine quoted Wolfgang Durheimer, who recently quit his post as head of Porsche R&D to become Bentley CEO, as saying Porsche has “a four-cylinder boxer engine under development” and that it “can be applied” to the Boxster, the Cayman and the 911.

According to Autocar, Porsche’s four-cylinder boxer engine will displace 2.5 liters and, in turbocharged form, will deliver 360 horsepower.

Big-wave maniacs all over the planet were beside themselves with the prospect of an immense storm developing in the northwestern Pacific that could send massive waves towards the Hawaiian Islands and the West Coast. Maybe there’s a reason it’s called “Surf City USA.” Top kneeboard surfing competitors enjoyed a head-high swell and summer-like weather Jan. 14 and 15 at Huntington Beach for the Kneeboard Surfing USA Titles and Festival.

San Diego’s Jack Beresford, past winner of several U.S. Titles, broke his own “Huntington jinx,” winning for the first time at surfing’s most-famous pier. The Open Division winner bested what many consider the toughest field ever assembled for a Kneeboard Surfing U.S. Titles – including several former U.S. champions.
