Entrepreneur Tod Swank is convinced Watson Laminates can continue to roll out new skateboards made in San Diego, even as the industry shrinks stateside because of cheaper labor costs overseas.

More than 50 years ago, riders in California first put wheels on a plank, called it a skateboard and brought the sport of ocean surfing onto dry land. Then cheap foreign labor drove many builders overseas or out of business, leaving entrepreneurs such as Tod Swank wondering whether “made in California” would become a thing of the past.

Boulder Municipal is hiring four riders to maintain the newest Alpine Bike Park

Valmont Bike Park is a 40-acre municipal park in Boulder, Colorado. It’s complete with dual slalom, slopestyle, pump parks, dirt jumps and XC and cyclocross trails. Many of the trails at Valmont were designed and built by Alpine Bike Parks’ crew of Alex Reveles, Eric Carter, Jacob Hyde, Jamie Goldman, Kyle Ebbett, Kyle Jameson, Randy Spangler, Ryan Howard, and others.

Enni Rukajärvi (FIN) and Eric Willett (USA) won today’s slopestyle competition at the Burton US Open presented by MINI. Both riders will take home $20,000 cash as well as valuable points towards the Burton Global Open Series championship titles and the TTR top-10 rankings, which will be determined tomorrow.
