In the closing days of the US F1 team’s demise, Ken Anderson made a last-ditch proposal to the FIA requesting his team be allowed to begin its season at Barcelona, site of this weekend’s fifth round of the Formula One championship.
But the FIA decided the wheels had come off US F1’s effort to build a car and declared the grid position open for potential new entrants in 2011. Instead of racing in Spain, US F1 has fired all its employes and begun accounting for $3.5 million in debt. Last month, two transporters acquired from Brawn GP were seized for non-payment and put up for auction on eBay.

I’m warming up to these ATV things. First it was the 4×4 utility quads. I grew up in the country so off-roading was always a way to pass the time. Of course, we never had 4WD vehicles, just crappy old cars and trucks, so we called it scrapping, but it was probably better that way. Now that I’ve got access to all the new utility ATVs and side-by-sides, I’m really into the scrappin’ theme again, only now I can get into tighter, muddier, more technical places that I probably should be.Â
My line of thought so far is that if I want to haul ass, like on a motocross track, I’d rather do it on a bike and leave the slow rock-crawling to the four-wheelers. It’s worked well so far, but with the knee injury, I’ve been looking to ATVs more and more … Details
World Rally Championship leader Sebastian Loeb of France slid into a bridge on the fourth of nine stages on the opening day of Rally New Zealand, ending Friday 1 minute, 19.8 seconds off the lead held by Norway’s Petter Solberg.
Six-time world champion Loeb, who won the past three rounds of the championship, approached a right-hand corner too fast on the 22.2km stage in Northland province and slammed sideways into a bridge abutment.
