October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner ascended more than 24 miles above Earth’s surface to the edge of space in a stratospheric balloon. Millions across the globe watched as he opened the door of the capsule, stepped off the platform, and broke the speed of sound while free falling safely back to Earth. A roadworthy version of a children’s toy car for has been built. John Bitmead constructed an adult-sized copy of a Little Tikes toy car, which takes petrol, has a tax disc, and can reach speeds of up to 70 mph.
Banzai Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii (January 30th, 2014): After four consecutive Lei Days and lots of wild and stormy weather, The Volcom Pipe Pro finally got underway today. Conditions were not exactly what everyone was hoping for but the north swell and clean condition offered up some fun and contestable rights at the Ehukai sand bar.
One of the highlights of the day was the Volcom last chance qualifier (VLCQ) heat where Gavin Beschen, JD Irons, Kaimana Henry, Kawai Lindo, Bruce Irons and Jamie O’Brien battled for the last remaining wildcard spot in the event. Jamie rode the best wave of the heat scoring an 8.5 and backed it up with a 4.17 winning the heat and earning his place in heat 13 of the round of 96.
