We’ve just spotted news over on Cam’s blog that he has taken the decision to leave downhill racing to concentrate on his career after racing, and that starts with studying at Canterbury University. After riding for the Commencal Riding Addiction team in recent seasons he mentions a partnership with a Kiwi bike company that we can only think to be Zerode and he’ll be racing in New Zealand on the new bike. It’s a sad day when downhill loses a rider and especially a character like Cam but it’t not easy to land a top team ride and everyone at Dirt wishes him all the best for the future, here’s what he had to say: More
SN Editor – I’ve spent many years in action sports and Jack McClure is still the craziest guy I’ve ever seen. We raced Top Fuel Dragsters in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Fast cars were running the full quarter mile in the mid 6 seconds at 220+ mph. Jack would sit on his little go-kart, make 5 second passes at 240 mph and completely show up the big boys. His idea of “safety” was to strap a parachute to the back of his neck. He planned to release the chute if any problems happened, be pulled out of the car backwards and slide to a stop on his ass. Always wondered what happened to him and fully expected to hear he was killed in this go-kart. He’s now back at it at 88 years old … CRAZY !!!!!!!!!
