The first summer that I caught the surf bug as a kid was the coldest summer ever.
Well, actually, it was hotter than hell on the East Coast, but because of some serious upwelling, the ocean was frigid. As the water continually dipped into the low 50s, all I had was a spring suit with these terrible Velcro-strap sleeves.
