Morgan Lucas scored his first career Top Fuel victory during the rain-drenched Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
Lucas posted an on-and-off the throttle 5.231 elapsed time at only 162.86 miles per hour to defeat No. 1 qualified Spencer Massey in a traction-challenged match under the lights. Massey lifted early and coasted to a 5.418.
“I probably imagined something a lot prettier than that but we got it done and it’s time for this crew to enjoy something they’ve worked at for a very long time. I hope this is just the first of many we can celebrate together,†Lucas said.Â
