Porsche has been planning to take control of Volkswagen for several months now, with the sports car maker finally making its move on Wednesday. Porsche announced its integration with Volkswagen earlier today, creating a single entity with 10 underlying brands.

sailboardThere were no signs of nerves from slalom’s newest addition to the World Tour, as the opening day of competition in Austria delivered sun and wind in equal measure to start proceedings in style.

After a morning spent registering just shy of 400 sails and 200 boards, the 66-man slalom fleet took to the water to mark the official start of competition on Lake Neusiedl. 

Powered by the prevailing NW wind, the racers had to negotiate a 4-buoy slalom course, starting and finishing on port tack. Opening proceedings, all eyes turned to race one.

Lance Armstrong lashed out Wednesday at Kazakh officials who let his Astana team fall into a financial crisis on the eve of his first Giro d’Italia.

“I don’t know them, I don’t have a personal relationship with them, but I get frustrated,” said the seven-time Tour de France champion who’s riding for free this season. “These Kazakhs, they don’t return phone calls, and there’s not a lot of clarity about what is going to happen.

The American cyclist even suggested his Livestrong cancer foundation might be able step in and bail out the team, but that seemed to be a long shot.
