Instead, the Association of Surfing Professionals Tour world title is a battle of the other two brands, involving two Australians.
The Blacktown boy Mick Fanning, world champion two years ago, will ride for Rip Curl, while the Gold Coast’s Joel Parkinson is surfing for Billabong. The title will be decided at the Banzai Pipeline event in Hawaii next month. Ditto the battle of the surf brands for the women’s title … the former NSW surfer Stephanie Gilmore, now based on the Gold Coast, is contracted to Rip Curl, while Brazil’s Silvana Lima is backed by Billabong … Details

The SF Urban Riders and SF Dirt Lab will also be in the house promoting the SF Bike Park. They will be gathering at the Marin Factory Store at 1090 Folsom St at the corner of 7th St. from 6 to 8 PM.
The top riders will be signing autographs on Limited Edition AT Showdown posters. Contest rider rostrum includes: Andrew Taylor, Cam and Tyler McCaul, Greg Watts, Jordie Lunn, Paul Basagoitia and more! Free beer and pizza will be provided. Plus you can enter to the raffle to win a Marin Alcatraz Dirt Jump Bike worth $1199.99. Half of the proceeds go to the SF Urban Riders Mclaren Park Bicycle Park and the other half will go towards putting on AT’s Showdown.

Chad Knaus was clearly distracted as he leaned against a cart during a casual conversation before last week’s race in Phoenix. His eyes darted around, finally settling on an aerosol can and a box of towels.
“Move,†he ordered, just as he began spraying cleaner across the top of the nylon cover on the tool cart. He wiped away the offensive dust and dirt, rolled the towels into a ball and fired them into a nearby trash can.
