Ohope surfer Dylan Barnfield barnstormed his way to a national title today (Sunday 7th March) winning the Open Men’s Division at the Hyundai National Longboard Championships held at Whangamata Beach over the weekend.
The surf remained large for the final day of the event with 2.0m waves hammering the Whangamata Beach as well as the remaining surfers in the event.

Saturday saw the semi finals of the 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge on the Tryvann Vinterpark slopestyle course on the scenic outskirts of Oslo, Norway. Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) was in form and qualified in the top spot of his heat leaving Seppe Smits (BEL) in second and Torstein Horgmo (NOR) in third place. The second heat was dominated by the two Norwegian warriors Mikkel Bang and Tore Holvik leaving Eric Willett (USA) in third. In the final tomorrow, ten qualified snowboarders including Mark McMorris (CAN), Ville Uotila (FIN), Roope Tonteri (FIN) and Sage Kotsenburg (USA) will ride it out for the coveted TAC Title and of course a maximum 1000 Swatch TTR Ranking points …Â Details & Pictures
