In an effort to expand its grid size, the MotoGP is planning to change the rules and allow 1000cc engines to race in 2012. When this happens, the grid could have its first new entrant from Norton Motorcycles.

Most people don’t think of the Iconic Norton brand when they think of motorcycle racing, but Norton has a long history of success on the track, even if most of it came during the 1950’s. Some of the best kiteboarding competitors in the world bring their talents to the Squamish Spit Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 21 and 22) for the 2010 West Coast Open and Canadian National Championships.

Race director Kyle Touhey said the sport has expanded over the past three years, and he intends to increase its popularity with this event.

“Last year we had an open series and some weekend summer series in Squamish,” he said. “The local events are sort of more for fun but this upcoming race is intended for high level racers. There should be a lot of high calibre riding this weekend.” …  Details

Surfing canines hang paws on Saturday, Aug. 21 as the final surf dog clinic at Del Mar’s Dog Beach trains four-legged friends for the real deal — the Surf Dog Surf A Thon on Sunday, Sept. 12.

“If it looks like a dog, and barks like a dogn and rides a surf board, it’s practicing for the Fifth Annual Surf Dog Surf A Thon.” said John Van Zante, public relations manager for Helen Woodward Animal Center that sponsors the surfing dog contest.

Surf Dog clinics begin at 9 and 10 a.m. at Dog Beach. That gives surfing dogs, and their owners, nearly a month to practice for the main event   …  Details

Orlando, Fla. – The action continued today at the Orlando Watersports Complex, as the 17th annual ROCKSTAR WWA Wakeboard World Championships, presented by Supra hosted finals for 13 of the 21 divisions competing throughout the four-day event. Among the 13 newly crowned world champions was 12-year-old Illinois native Taylor McCullough – the only rider to successfully defend their title.

McCullough, the 2009 Girls division world champion, captured her second consecutive world title today in the 13 & under category, after taking first place in her four-woman final.
