Without Whitey Harrison, two things in California may not exist. One is the outrigger canoe. The other is the Dana Outrigger Canoe Club.
Developed by the indigenous people of Hawaii and mainly used for fishing and transportation, the outrigger canoe has emerged as one icons of the culture. For the most part, Harrison is credited with its use in competitive racing in California.
