Hawaii’s Carissa Moore, a perennial giant-killer who will probably become a world surfing champion not long after she turns pro, graces the cover of the May issue of Surfer magazine — and deservedly so.
How special is that? Very, considering that surfing magazines devote little space to women’s surfing and almost never put a female on the cover. Moore, 16, is the first female surfer to appear on the cover of Surfer since four-time world champion Lisa Andersen in 1995, and only the third overall.
