Pat Farley of Santa Cruz enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War to avoid being drafted. He became a decorated soldier but was given a full psychiatric pension.
Brant Page evaded the draft while living in Hawaii and hiding from the FBI.
Both men turned to surfing to cope with the consequences of their decisions.
