Not all surfing world records need giant waves. In 2012, Garrett McNamara’s 78-foot-high wave ridden at Portugal’s Nazare went into the Guinness World Records as the biggest wave ever ridden. That record is now under threat by Carlos Burle and Andrew Cotton, who, over the last six months, have ridden waves at Nazare that, once ratified, may eclipse McNamara’s. However, there are other surfing records out there that aren’t quite as extreme. Here are a few that don’t involve near death and may give you the chance to write yourself into the record books.
