Surfers in Santa Cruz can thank Nat Young for that great run of waves in January.
The 22-year-old and eighth ranked surfer in the world was recovering from ear surgery and wisdom teeth extraction — so he was out of the water for about three weeks, taking one for the team.
“I feel like the whole time after I had that (ear) surgery, the waves were firing,” Young said. “It was the worst timing.”
