On the day that he announced that he will be leaving Sauber to join “his” driver, Nico Hulkenberg, at Sahara Force India, leading F1 operations engineer, Tom McCullough, talks to Rob Wilson and Peter Windsor about the impact the new 2014 F1 engines will have on the drivers. There’s lots of chat about Nico, of course, and of how his arrival will be a huge boost for SFI – but we look, too, at the new regs in general: how will the greater torque of the engines affect the way tyres evolve – and what, in turn, will this mean in terms of the way the drivers use the steering wheel and pedals? Fuel-flow rates will also be an issue, as will the drivers’ ability to manage them
