Mick Fanning had to put Kelly Slater out of his mind heading into the final day of competition at the Billabong Pipeline Masters on Oahu’s North Shore. In his quest for a third ASP world title Fanning was in control of his own destiny, needing only to advance through two more rounds of competition in order to clinch it.
If he could just do that it wouldn’t matter what Slater did. But if he failed to advance to the semifinals, and Slater won the event, something he’s done six times before, that would mean 12 titles for Slater … More
