Kai Otton got bumped up on Kelly Slater’s Christmas list after what he pulled on Thursday at the Rip Curl Pro in Portugal. Thanks to Otton, Slater’s shot at the world title remains alive, albeit in critical condition heading into the final stop in Hawaii, home of the Billabong Pipeline Masters. Otton upset Mick Fanning in a quarterfinal heat that, had Fanning won, would have clinched him his third world title.
