Those who say Mikey DeTemple surfs with all of his heart couldn’t be more precise.

The 25-year-old professional longboarder from Indian Harbour Beach, who recently underwent his third pacemaker replacement in seven years, will be back in the water this weekend at Shepard Park in Cocoa Beach seeking his third major title in the 45th Ron Jon Easter Surfing Festival.

“I owe everything for my surfing to technology,” said DeTemple, who two years ago qualified for the Oxbow World Longboard Championships in Anglet, France. “I’m doing good.”

Diagnosed with a third-degree heart blockage in which his ventricles lacked an electrical system contact, DeTemple had his first pacemaker implanted in 2002 in Miami… Details
