On January 25, 2012, Ricky Whitlock paddled out at the famed Banzai Pipeline on Oahu’s North Shore before dawn. His second wave broke on top of him and slammed him into the reef, breaking two vertebra in his back. This is his story about surfing 30′ waves months after doctors told him he could never surf again.
