That well-known pervert Freud has a lot to answer for. I’m convinced that spotting erotic associations with everyday objects is a learned skill, not innate. Or maybe I was very naïve – when I was 26 years old, a girlfriend burst into giggles when I tied two round balloons and a long one together as Christmas decorations at her parents’ house.
Whatever the truth may be, every day we’re bombarded with images for which we are expected to recognise and respond to sexual associations, and the boating industry has plenty of opportunity to play this game.
