Last week it was Smokin’ the Sound that roared through the waters of the Mississippi Sound to the north of Deer Island in Biloxi.
This week, it’s Smokin’ the Lake off The Dock Bar and Grill in the Gulfport Lake.
Smokin’ the Sound featured massive 45-to-50 foot boats — equipped with twin outboards — reaching speeds of 170 mph around a 9-mile track that drew thousands of race fans all along Casino Row.
Smokin’ the Lake, however, will introduce a new style of racing.
First of all, there will be no boats running twin engines.
Second, boats will not reach speeds of 170.
And third, there will be no circular track with races that covers 80-to-100 miles.
Instead, single engine boats will race a quarter-mile track that’s similar in style to NHRA drag racing.
Welcome to the world of Deep South Drag Boat racing… Details
