A strong storm dumped up to three feet of snow on the Sierra Nevada, allowing several California ski resorts to open some slopes earlier than any time in memory and offering hope of a rebound from last season’s disastrously dry winter.
Squaw Valley, one of the state’s biggest and most internationally famous ski resorts, said it will open a slope Thursday for skiing, its earliest opening in 51 years of record keeping.
