USA Cycling on Friday announced the riders that will represent the United States at the 2012 UCI Road World Championships in Limburg, Netherlands. The event spans Sept. 16-23.
The five men who donned the red, white and blue in the Olympic Games will do so again as automatic nominations to contest the elite men’s race. The United States earned nine spots in the elite men’s road race, the maximum number for any country. Among the nine Americans slated to contest the race are the five Olympians: Timmy Duggan (Nederland, Colo./Liquigas-Cannondale), Tyler Farrar (Wenatchee, Wash./Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda), Chris Horner (San Diego, Calif./RadioShack-Nissan-Trek), Taylor Phinney (Boulder, Colo./BMC Racing) and Tejay van Garderen (Boulder, Colo./BMC Racing). Those five will be joined by discretionary selections Brent Bookwalter (Athens, Ga./BMC Racing), Matthew Busche (Wauwatosa, Wisc./RadioShack-Nissan-Trek), Lucas Euser (Boulder, Colo./Spidertech p/b C10) and Alex Howes (Golden, Colo./Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda).
