The number is painted in white on the blue tube of Arielle Martin’s BMX bike designed specially for the London Olympics, just below the handle bars, where she can look down and see it and remind herself of her journey. The significance? “Roughly the number of days I had to wait,†Martin wrote on her website two weeks ago, “from the last gate drop in Beijing to the first in London.â€
Martin won’t get to ride it.
