U-13 driver J. Michael Kelly returns to New Zealand on Thursday to drive in the 2009 Union International Montoniquie World Grand Prix Hydroplane Championship, driving “The Boss.”
Kelly is currently in 7th place with 127 points going into the final weekend of racing.
“The Boss,” hadn’t been racing on the GP circuit in the past 3 years and ran into some mechanical problems during the first weekend of competing. According to Kelly, he lost the cowling in his first run but finished 2nd in the re-start. In the next race, a gear box went out.
Since then, changes have been made to the boat. They plan further testing before the weekend to determine final race set-ups… More info
