The season of madness is upon us again! As if Christmas and New Year weren’t enough, we’ve reached that special time of year when sailors sprint around the planet as fast as they can, while rowers make their way in a far more sedate fashion across the Atlantic.
Although there isn’t a rowing race from the Canaries to the Caribbean this year, there are a number of independent boats making a crossing, and a host of contenders for ocean rowing’s Blue Riband trophy, presented for the fastest overall crossing. This record is currently held by La Mondiale with a time of 33 days, 7 hours and 30 minutes and there’s great anticipation that someone might break the 30-day barrier for the first time … Pictures & More
