From 9th November 2008 to the 15th March 2009 Рhere is a brief summary of the major events in this sixth Vend̩e Globe, which was won by Michel Desjoyeaux on Foncia on 1st February. The Austrian, Norbert Sedlacek brought the race to an end 42 days later by completing his round the world voyage yesterday.

9th November: The Race of the Century begins: 30 skippers, including 19 new boats and just as many favourites set out on the non-stop solo round the world voyage. The moderate south-westerly wind soon increased to a major storm in the Bay of Biscay. Four skippers returned to….  Details
