Laura Dekker, a 14-year-old girl from The Netherlands, departed from Amsterdam this week to become the youngest person to sail around the world. 

This comes two months after Abby Sunderland, a 16-year-old American teenager attempting the same circumnavigation, had to be rescued in the Indian Ocean.

There are 16-year-olds who can’t be trusted to drive to the mall alone. What in the world are these parents thinking in letting teenagers sail around the planet alone?
