This has been a project of mine for a while. I have been wanting to install a Jet/Turbine engine in a car for a long time that drives the wheels instead of being “thrust” driven. Having it driven by the wheels allows me to safely drive it without burning the vehicles behind me. This video shows the first start up attempt and the successful second attempt. This engine will run on any type of fuel, but I have decided to run it on the proper jet-A fuel so that the fuel system does not get clogged or gummed up. I will do another video while driving this car to a local car event in the future. Special thanks to Richard Flanagan in helping me with all the one-off machined parts.
Even though this is not a horn,siren, or diaphone. I think it qualifies as a noise maker . At idle (15,000rpm) it pumps out close to 130dB!!! Â
SUMMARY:
This engine came from an QH-50 DASH. It was an anti submarine helicopter used to hunt and destroy enemy submarines without detection. Most T50’s/502’s had an output of 165-450 horsepower, This one is one of the rare 550 horsepowerturbines that was used for reconduring the Vietnam war.
