Becky Baird of Charleston, an experienced surfer at age 50, was standing on the sand Sunday afternoon at Folly Beach preparing to compete against a legend.
In a few minutes, she would paddle out to match moves against Mimi Munro of Ormond Beach, Fla., a member of the East Coast Surfing Legends Hall of Fame and 1965 East Coast champion at age 13.
Munro is closing in on 60 now, but she’s still in great shape. She was in town for the 2010 Folly Beach Wahine Classic. It’s an all-female surfing competition that raises money for a summer camp for autistic children … Details
