With the return of the Snowboard Dash for Cash event in the XTERRA Winter World Championship at Snowbasin Resort, UT, I look back at my experience last year and offer a bit of advice.
As I rode off the Wildcat lift, my excitement for the upcoming race grew when I saw the group gathered in front of me. While a few athletes hanging around looked reminiscent of the crowds at terrain parks, I was surprised at the number who looked like they had just come from their 10th snowshoe race, carrying a borrowed snowboard. Confidence in my ability rose as some of these athletes, wearing hiking boots and sporting spandex, began practicing their sprints and three-point line starts. This was a snowboarding race, right? Did they sign up for the wrong event?
