SANTIAGO, Chile – Carlos Sainz extended his overall lead in the Dakar Rally by finishing second in Thursday’s sixth stage to Stephane Peterhansel.
Peterhansel claimed a record 53rd stage victory across the Atacama Desert, beating Sainz by 47 seconds, and nearly 9 minutes ahead of third place Mark Miller of the United States.
Robby Gordon finished 17th, suffering two flat tires. He was 49 minutes, 17 seconds off the pace. He completed the stage in 1 hour, 48 minutes, 25 seconds. He dropped from fourth to sixth in the overall standings .. Details
