Joel Parkinson (AUS), 28, just put in one of the most impressive seasons of his career. Winning three of the first five events, the silky smooth natural-footer rampaged to an early season lead. However, an ankle injury sustained whilst training in Bali slowed the juggernaut run down and opened the door for compatriot Mick Fanning (AUS), 28, to vault into the lead following an incredible late-season run.
