Molokai Hoe paddlers, with a record 112 crews entered, marked a historic day Sunday, Oct. 11 to make the rough, tough, 41 mile Kaiwi Channel crossing.

More than 1,000 paddlers from across the globe made the journey to Molokai’s nostalgic Hale O Lono Boat harbor where the world championship outrigger canoe race was set to start. Paddlers prepared before sunrise at the small harbor where early morning showers brought some hope, not just chills, that the trade winds may be back.
