Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin were leading the Petit Le Mans race when the red flag was given to the field due to a thunderstorm located over the metropolitan Atlanta area, including the Road Atlanta 2.540 mile road course. The American Le Mans Series officials did not call the 1,000 mile or 10 hour race at that time, hoping that the rain would clear out but the weather cells on radar showed the slow movement of the latest storm to hit the state of Georgia in the past week.
