You know things are not going well at Targa Newfoundland when your first day of competitive driving ends with a ride in an ambulance headed to St. John’s, all sirens wailing, strapped head to toe on a hard stretcher. Minutes earlier, co-driver Keith Townsend and I had left the starting line for the first of two passes on the Flatrock stage aboard Subaru Rally Team Canada’s race-prepared Targa STI.
We had tested the car extensively on Mosport’s Driver Development Track a few weeks earlier and compared its outright speed and performance with that of a stock STI (see Posted Driving blog), but these were our first kilometres on the real roads of a Targa stage
